STEVE
April, 2018 - I had just finished a year on the road doing Hamilton. I was unemployed, I was bored, and I was looking for whatever was coming next. While I was in LA, I had written a one-woman show, which proved to be a life changing experience. It helped me realize that I wanted to write more, to tell my own stories, to control my own narrative. I had an idea for a short film, but had no idea where to begin. I reached out to an old friend, Jason, for a lunch date. He worked in the film industry and I hoped he would give me some insight, or at least tell me the 3 most common mistakes that most young filmmakers make….but, he had other plans. He heard my pitch and said, “Oh, we’re producing this.” The next couple months are a blur. I wrote a treatment (didn’t know what that was), and then there was a screenplay (didn't know how to write one, but I do now thanks to Final Draft & YouTube), and suddenly we’re talking budgets and locations and blocking out 3 days in November to shoot MY film. Jason assembled a stellar crew, I cast all of my brilliant friends, and STEVE was born.
I made STEVE as an exercise, an experiment. After 7 years in NYC, I had never been cast in a tv show or movie and was convinced that it would never happen. So, I decided to stop waiting on someone to decide I was worthy, and write my own way. And now, I’m an award winning filmmaker. #Forward
